Education - Labour market
Range/Scope:
The matter of education-labour market covers a broad spectrum. The problems and isues with this matter are very fluctuating and evolving.
Hence, the function of co-ordinator education-labour market should be adaptable to the evolutions and emerging problems. In all, two objectives can be aimed at:
• To improvee the employability of school leavers, employees and job seekers.
• To prevent educational backdrops and social dualization.
There are two main ways to achieve these objectives:
• To upgrade Technical and Vocational Secondary Education.
• To lay the foundation for life-long learning.
There are four fields in which the action around educational-labour market, takes palce:
• Detecting.
• Following up
• Informing
• Co-ordinating
In each of these fields, it is essential to develop networks. Through one or more of these action fields, the co-ordinator education-labour market is involved in
operationalizing objectives and projects.
Job description:
• To co-ordinate the various administrations for umbrella matters concerning education and labour market.
• Contact other occupational trainers: VIZO/VDAB/NGOs/ etc..
• Contact eployers' and sectorial organisations and trade unions.
• Follow up advice from SERV /VLOR / etc.
• Follow up agreements between education and the labour market.
• Follow up directives on Flemisch and European employment.
• Follow up discussions on translation of second section of compulsory school-age and trajectory
guidance in part-time Vocational Secondary Education (DBSO).
Information:
Since 1991 and 1994, on behalf of the Flemisch government, the Centre for Employment, Labour and Training (WAV) has been operating on labour market data. The Centre
gathers all statistical data available on actual trends on the labour market in Flanders, uniforms and integrates them, and clarifies them scientifically. They are
publisched in a yearbook and in usefull tables that can be downloaded from the WAV website.
In addition, every three months, the WAV publishes a magazine, in which it reports clearly on scientific research around the labour market at every
Flemisch university, in the broadest sense. The materials that are published, contain interesting ingredients for teachers at secondary, higher and university level,
of subjects like ' social problems, economy', etc.
